JA of Northern Alberta & NWT

Our Team: Shared Values = Shared Success

The staff of Junior Achievement are a dedicated and professional group of people with diverse backgrounds sharing one thing in common: they each believe in the power of education, and are passionate about providing youth the right opportunities and the right mentorship to succeed in life. As the key representatives of JA to stakeholders, each team member is an enthusiastic advocate of education, opportunity and potential.

Jay D. Ball - President

A passionate advocate of education and mentoring, Jay Ball was appointed President of Junior Achievement of Northern Alberta & NWT on April 16th, 2003. He previously served three years as the organization's Vice-President, handling marketing, fund development and other leadership roles since arriving at JA in May of 2000.

Since 2004, Jay and his team have increased the visibility of the JA brand across the entire region resulting in double digit growth and sound fiscal management each year since. In November of 2006, JA’s new home - The Junior Achievement Center opened its doors on the 2nd floor of The World Trade Center Edmonton. The first of its kind JA faculty in Canada, The JA Center is a fully functional, all grades, education environment in a business setting complete with professional boardroom tables and chairs within a very high tech environment. In addition to heading up the local JA office, Jay serves on National committees for Junior Achievement of Canada and is a graduate the JA Worldwide - Leadership Academy and Area Manager Training (AMT).

Jay is also a member of the JCI Edmonton (Junior Chamber International/Jaycees) and since 1997 has served in a variety of local and national board and committee roles. In February of 2005 Jay was named a Senator (# 65438) of Junior Chamber International. He is also a graduate of the Charter Class of Leadership Edmonton and subsequently served a two year term on the LE Board of Directors

In addition to his busy family and professional life, Jay is in his 14th season working part-time for the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club where he is part of team of 5 that manages the press box at every Oilers home game. Before joining Junior Achievement in 2000, he previously served three years as the Manager of Community Initiatives for the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. While at the Chamber he launched the annual BrightNights Light Festival supporting the Edmonton School Lunch Program and created the initial framework for Leadership Edmonton. Heavily involved in the community, Jay has served in many volunteer leadership roles with events such as Alberta Special Olympics, Edmonton Special Olympics, The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and World Firefighter Games just to name a few.

Jay believes volunteering has many benefits! In fact, Jay met his future wife Emily while serving on the Volunteer organizing committee leading up to the 2001 IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Edmonton. They were married in 2001, just 4 weeks after the games and have two children, Emma (born 2002) and Luke (born 2004). Away from JA, Jay's number one pastime is fishing and he enjoys quality time with his wife and children travelling or at their family getaway at Pigeon Lake.
