VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
There are many ways you can support Junior Achievement through volunteering! Whether you want to make a direct impact on youth, assist with fundraising or sit on the Board of Directors, there is something here for you!
Program Volunteer – Classroom Programs or JA Days.
These volunteers facilitate JA Programs in the classroom, either in a school setting or at the JA Business Center. Time Commitment is dependent on program and personal preparation time, but the average time commitment is 10 hours per program, per year. Once receiving training, you will bring all materials and books to the class and teach pre-designed JA Programs. This is the most popular volunteer position, and the one where we need the most help!
Program Volunteer – Company Program Advisor (Oct-Apr only).
The Company Program Volunteer acts as an Advisor for one Company Program team. You will be a mentor for high school students who wish to start a small company over a 6 month period. After receiving training, you and 2-3 other volunteers will lead a team of up to 15 youth in creating a product, marketing, producing and selling the product. At the end of the program, the team will liquidate their assets and hopefully make a profit to be divided among shareholders! Time Commitment includes one weekend orientation session and 12-20 weeks for the program itself (3 hours, one evening a week at the JA Center). A wonderful way to share your knowledge of business! Advisors must provide 2 references, participate in an in-person interview and undergo a Police Security Clearance/Vulnerable Sector Search Check.
Special Event Volunteer.
Not ready to teach, but still want to help out? We have opportunities throughout the year for people to assist with fundraising initiatives. Volunteers are often needed for: Oilers 50/50 Sales, Casino Events, Business Hall of Fame, Annual Golf Tournament, etc. Time Commitment and Location depend on the event. Contact the JA office today for more information at 428-1421 ext. 227
Director – JA Board Member.
Senior Executives from the business community are invited by the Board to participate in governance and operation of the charter. Members are required to attend regular meetings, sit on committees, participate in fund-development activities, assume a leadership role and teach at least one JA program per year. Time Commitment varies. Board Members must provide 2 professional references, participate in an in-person interview and undergo a Police Security Clearance/Vulnerable Sector Search Check. Additional requirements apply, please contact Jay Ball, President of JA Northern Alberta & NWT at 428-1421 ext. 221 for more information
Public Relations Volunteer – Achievers (Youth). Only
Achievers and Past Achievers (within 2 years of graduating from the Company Program) can support JA at fundraising and other events in the community as well as assist with marketing campaigns and presentations.
